Talking up a storm...

(An old post -- but wanted to get it in there!)

Maelyn has started talking up a storm lately. Here are a few of her famous sayings:

  • you (in response to seeing herself in a picture)
  • what you talking bout?
  • gelcome (welcome)
  • korry (sorry)
  • no, Wocky!! (always telling Rocky off -- sibling rivalry)
  • mmm...yummy!
  • quiet!
  • Paul (calls Daddy Paul when she really wants his attention)
  • wait a me!
  • awwww, she so cute! (when she see's pics of herself)
  • don't bug me, okay?
  • calm down, mommy....calm down
  • you cwazy, mommy!
  • say korry to Daddy...now give him a kiss (in response to me raising my voice to Paul)
  • I cwying (Told to her daycare teacher, Debbie, when she asked Maelyn what was wrong. Maelyn stopped crying, put her hands on her hips and told Debbie that what was wrong with her was that she was crying -- (with a duh! attitude), then went back to crying.)
  • Jesus Murphy (told to Mommy when Mommy asked Maelyn to clean the playroom. Oops! Seems Maelyn picked up a bad habit from Mommy)
  • Why, why, why?? (asked over and over and over and over and over......)

Maelyn's favourite things...

Maelyn definitely has a few favourite things --

Chaps sticks, lipsticks -- you name it, she loves them!

Flashlights -- she plays with them for hours!!

  • blankets -- she takes her blankets everywhere and sleeps with them every nights
  • her cars -- absolutely addicted to dinky cars and especially her replica's from the Cars 2 movie
  • figurines -- any kind of small figuring toy that she can play pretend with is a favourite
  • books -- treasures her books and 'reads' them all the time

Music to my ears...

Maelyn's vocabulary has been exploding over the past few months, but none of the words that she has put together have been sweeter than the words she came up with last Sunday...

"I love you so much, Mommy!"

Life doesn't get much better than that! :)

Earlier this week Maelyn visited me at school, meeting my students and seeing my classroom. On Friday, when I picked her up at daycare, she turned to her teacher and said, "Debbie, my Mommy a teacher. I don't want to call her a teacher. I call her Jan."

I love, love, love the full sentences that she is coming up with and the conversations that we are now able to have. Our little miss is quite the character and has me laughing all day long. Yesterday, when we were lying in bed, she covered Paul and I will pillows and said, "Don't worry, guys! You will be okay! Get com-ter-ble -- I going to jump on you!"

Some other favourites of ours...

  • Maelyn's addiction to the word "No way!"
  • she responds to questions with 'cause ya' or 'cause no'
  • 'Okay, Mommy. I will! (in response to asking her to do something....but really, she is just ignoring me)
Love my little ladybug to pieces!

January's Random Cuteness

Setting the table all by herself!

This year we have decided to try and implement a Sunday family dinner tradition -- time for just the three of us to spend together. I normally don't cook roasts or dinners that take longer than half an hour to cook. Sunday's have now been a time to experiment with the typical Sunday dinner and to try new recipes. So far, it has been wonderful to know that we have carved out that time for the three of us -- family time is so important!

Our first dinner...

When I was a kid, we would always have popcorn with a Disney movie on Sunday nights. Maelyn loves Sunday evenings and always ask when we are going to have our popcorn. :)

Ottawa Visit

This past August we headed to Ottawa for a visit with our family in Ottawa. Maelyn hadn't yet been able to meet my Grandpa -- and I love seeing the two of them together!

I also loved that Maelyn and Coby, my cousin's little boy, got to spend time together. They chased each other in the car and around the pool table for hours!

Getting chased by Stevie..
Where are you, little monkeys?

Settling in for a movie..

As a kid I loved visiting with family in Ottawa. I am hoping that as cousins, our kids get the opportunity to grow up together -- spending quality time together as often as possible.
