December 26 - Li River Cruise

When we got on the #puregold bus this morning, our guide had a gift for the kids – a Christmas gift. She got them each little Panda bears, which the kids adored!

It took us about an hour to get to the Li River, where we boarded a type of ferry for a four-hour river cruise. The boat was a lot of more comfortable than I had expected it to be and the kids were happy to all be able to sit together. Passengers can watch the view from their seat inside the boat or go up on one of two viewing decks. Lunch is also served on the boat.

The cruise was very relaxing, although not as enjoyable for the kids. Thank goodness we brought the tablets with us, as it gave the adults some time to enjoy the spectacular views.

I cannot put into words the scenery that was before us – it is truly indescribable. I felt like I was watching something from a movie or a book, not something that was right before my eyes. The beauty of the area is like no other.

Once the cruise was done, we made our way to the Yangshuo shopping street, where we took our time strolling through little shops. The kids were excited to be able to stretch their legs and buy some souvenirs.

Tonight we packed up a little, as tomorrow we are heading to Shangrao, the location of Maelyn, Mark, and Ella’s orphanage and the place where they lived until they were about two years old. Important days ahead.
